CASPER is building a library of books, research papers and other information that people might find useful. We have purchased a number of books related to suicide and have access to international medical journals which contain research on suicide. We are more than happy to lend books to people and to send copies of research or find research on particular topics that people may be interested in. If you email us through the website and let us know what you want we will do our best to help. We would also love to hear about any books or articles you have found useful that we should get hold of or can let our members know about.

Books currently available include:

Mental Health & the Law Wellington Community Law Centre
Social Therapy in Psychiatry David H. Clark
Prozac: Questions & Answers for Patients, Family & Doctors Dr Ronald Fieve

Re: Psychiatry

Has anyone read "Anatomy of An Epidemic" by Robert Whitaker, which was on sale at his talk in Auckland last year with Dr David Healy? It is a very interesting read and a good introduction to the field of psychiatry. It won an award iin the United States. Perhaps it should be available in your library. Another earlier book by the same author is entitled, "Mad in America", which is also a good read.

Bob Whitaker's Books

Thanks David. We have both books by Bob Whitaker and also many of David Healy's books. I write a regular blog on Bob Whitaker's Mad In America Website which can be found at http://www.madinamerica.com/ Its a great site with a wealth of information and lively debate on issues around psychoactive drugs and the mental health system. My blog discusses issues in New Zealand.
