Government negligence in prescription drug packaging In this article the National Poisons centre make it clear the politicians dropped the ball on regulating the packaging of medications and that children are dying as a result. Medsafe told the Coroner in Toran's inquest that despite lobbying government for the power to require labelling on prescription drugs they have been ignored. What could be more important than saving the lives of children and why is this such a low priority for our politicians?	View article
Coroner Allows Uncensored Reporting of Inquest The inquest into the daughter of CASPER founder Deb Williams made history yesterday with a decision by the Chief Coroner that the media would be allowed to report it in full. Usually the details of an inquest are suppressed and the method of suicide is always suppressed. The Chief Coroner having said he thinks that this may be contributing to our suicide rate reversed usual processes yesterday allowing cameras in the courtroom and telling the media they could report fully. Men with depression have more difficulty functioning "One of the key clinical implications of this study for GPs and other health professionals is that better assessment of a male patient's mental health may be achieved by questioning role and social functioning, rather than focusing on depression and anxiety symptoms." Or maybe just acknowleding this is a social rather than medical issue and treating it through social support rather than psychotropic drugs is the answer.	View article
$11k for failed negligence case This is an absolute travesty. Hilmorten was described by the daughter of one of our families in her suicide note as a death camp. Attached are the news item on the courts finding that the McKeown family must pay $11,000 to the DHB responsible for their son's suicide and the report of the Health and Disability Commissioner showing how culpable they are in respect of the death.
